Background
Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is implementing an EU-funded project aimed at reinforcing the role of civil society in domestic observation and promoting awareness about international human rights and democracy standards.
Within the context of this project, DRI and Charity Oriented Myanmar (COM) are implementing the Myanmar Democracy Fellowship (MDF), an interactive training programme with a focus on democracy standards and human rights. Young leaders from civil society, political parties, state institutions and media will meet for three separate modules to learn and discuss about comparative cases, legal standards, and share their views and hopes for the future of Myanmar.
DRI is looking for trainers to deliver specific sessions of the Myanmar Democracy Fellowship. The position is contingent on donor funding.
Tasks
- Prepare, design, and deliver specific sessions of the Myanmar Democracy Fellowship, in cooperation with DRI team, on issues related to democratic governance, peace processes and human rights
- Preparations may include the drafting of factsheets, briefing notes, PowerPoint presentations, the training agenda, the design of simulation games, etc.
- Provide any other assistance as requested by DRI team during the modules
Duration
The maximum number of working days to be performed throughout the period of this assignment is 30 days:
- 15 days maximum are to be performed during the three modules,
- 15 days maximum are to be performed prior to the three modules (preparation of materials and handouts, etc.)
The period for this assignment is approximately from 20/06/2018 to 28/02/2019, as follows:
- Module 1 from 30/06/2018 to 03/07/2018 in Yangon
- Module 2 from 03/10/2018 to 07/10/2018 in Naypyitaw
- Module 3 from 26/01/2019 to 31/01/2019 in a State capital city (to be confirmed)
Qualifications
- University degree in relevant field
- Minimum of 5 years experience in delivering trainings to multi-stakeholder groups on issues related to democratic governance, human rights, constitution-building, separation of powers, federalism, elections and peace processes
- Proven experience in research, advocacy, and policy dialogues with decision-makers
- Excellent knowledge of the legal and political situation in Myanmar
- Excellent knowledge of technical vocabulary related to human rights, elections and constitutional law
- Fluent in Myanmar and English language (oral and written)
Other requirements
- The trainer should be willing to travel to Yangon (module 1), Naypyitaw (module 2) and a state capital city (module 3).

- (1) Main objectives, (2) Methodology, (3) Resources to be used, and (4) Detailed agenda.
- A writing sample in Burmese (either a text or a PowerPoint will be accepted)
- Your expected daily fee (can be broken down by training fee and preparation fee)
