Project Consultant (Sri Lanka)

Title: Project Consultant (Sri Lanka)

Location: The Project Consultant will work from Colombo, Sri Lanka, with travel elsewhere for the implementation of project activities.

Duration: April/May 2017

Background

Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. DRI promotes the political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies and the development of democratic institutions worldwide.

DRI is implementing a two-year project to strengthen democratic consolidation in Sri Lanka by generating broad stakeholder participation in democratic reforms and contributing to the effective implementation of international human rights and labour conventions. DRI seeks to build awareness about the European Union’s Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) and contribute to a facts-based debate about the linkage between the trade concession and human rights and good governance. At the same time, DRI supports other dimensions of Sri Lanka’s political transition, notably the ongoing constitutional reform process, through its partnerships and support for dialogue between relevant stakeholders.

Objective of the role

The objective of the Project Consultant is to coordinate and ensure the smooth delivery of two roundtable discussions on the EU’s GSP+ scheme and its linkages to good governance and human rights, together with DRI’s partner Rights Now – Collective for Democracy. The roundtable discussions will take place in Vavuniya, Northern Province and Katunayake, Western Province between late April and May 2017. The Project Consultant will work a maximum of 15 working days in total.

Tasks and deliverables

In coordinating the two GSP+ roundtable discussions, the tasks and deliverables of the Project Consultant will include:

  • Undertake prior visits with Rights Now and local organisers (Martram Foundation in Vavuniya and Dabindu), ensuring that the logistics for the roundtables are in place, i.e., facility rental, set up of the event, materials for participants, accommodation for speakers and facilitators and other arrangements, etc.;
  • Attend the roundtable discussions with DRI representatives;
  • Ensure finalisation of event reports together with DRI’s partner Rights Now.

Closing date for applications: 25 April 2017. Early applications are encouraged, as recruitment may close before the deadline if a suitable applicant is found.
