Programme Officer (Myanmar)

Form of Employment: Long-term consultancy contract

Position Location: Yangon, Myanmar with occasional travel for project activities

Reporting to: DRI Country Representative Myanmar

Contract Period: as soon as possible, initial one-year contract with the high probability of extension

 

Background

 Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. Democracy Reporting International promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies and the development of democratic institutions world-wide.

The project Myanmar Vision 2030: Supporting Voices for Pluralism will conduct social media monitoring to unveil online voices for the protection of diversity and pluralism. The project will organize a series of events and trainings on pluralism across the country, presenting the monitoring findings and fostering a discussion of institutional mechanisms for the protection of cultural and religious diversity in Myanmar.

To support its efforts under this project, and conditional of the signing of grant contract, DRI is recruiting a Programme Officer to contribute to DRI’s social media monitoring work in DRI’s Myanmar office including coordinating the implementation of the social media monitoring efforts, managing the implementation of the trainings on pluralism as well as managing the communication with activity participants and local partners organisations.

 

Objective and Role

The Programme Officer supports all aspects of project implementation. She or he will work in cooperation with the Senior Social Media Analyst, the local partners organizations and report to the Country Representative.

 

 Location

The PO will work from Yangon, with regular travel for the implementation of the project.

Main tasks 

  • Ensures the coordination between local partner organizations and managing the implementation of the social media monitoring and trainings;
  • Leads on designated activities, including development of concept notes and agendas and coordinating activity logistics with the administration team;
  • Supports data collection, coding and analysis for the social media monitoring;
  • Supports the production of regular reports and infographics based on the data;
  • Support the planning of expert visits and expert stakeholder outreach, including translation at meetings and briefings;
  • Represents DRI at relevant events;
  • Acts as mentor for interns, in coordination with the other members of the programmes team;
  • Leads on designated activities’ monitoring and evaluation, including preparation of event and training reports, reviewing feedback forms and tracking project outputs.
  • Support implementation of other project activities, including contributing to research, technical/political briefings to decision-makers and workshops.
  • Other relevant duties, as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • University degree in social science, political science, international relations, law, or other relevant field;
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in donor-funded democracy support projects.
  • Previous experience with democratic governance, social media and democracy or pluralism/diversity and/or peace building required;
  • Experience in programme management, including management of work-plans and monitoring&evaluation tools;
  • High attention to detail, ability to work under limited supervision and in a multinational team with pro-active and problem-solver attitude is a must;
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in oral and written English and Myanmar.
