Background
Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is implementing an EU-funded project aimed at reinforcing the role of civil society in domestic observation and promoting awareness about international human rights and democracy standards.
Within the context of this project, DRI and Charity Oriented Myanmar (COM) are implementing the Myanmar Democracy Fellowship (MDF), an interactive training programme with a focus on democracy standards and human rights. Young leaders from citizen groups, political parties, state institutions and media will meet for three separate modules to learn and discuss comparative cases, legal standards, and share their views and hopes for the future of Myanmar.
DRI would like to hire an MDF Officer to coordinate the implementation of the fellowship, including managing the implementation of the training modules, managing the communication with training participants and local resource persons, supporting logistics and managing the alumni network.
Objective and Role
The MDF Officer supports all aspects of fellowship implementation. She or he will work in cooperation with the Project Manager, the Programme Coordinator and report to the Country Representative.
Location
The MDF Officer will work from Yangon, with regular travel for the implementation of the MDF modules and alumni events.
Duration
The assignment is expected to start in mid-June for an initial duration of 12 months, with the possibility of extension. The position is contingent on donor funding.
Tasks
- Acts as main focal point for the implementation aspects of the Myanmar Democracy Fellowship, including budget oversight and logistic arrangements for participants and alumni
- Supports the development of training materials, such as curriculum, agenda and handouts
- Ensures the coordination between the trainers and fellows in between modules of the MDF
- Liaises with Myanmar institutions to arrange official visits during the MDF modules
- Support DRI external communications and visibility for the MDF, including managing the MDF Facebook page alumni Alumnae network
- Leads on MDF monitoring and evaluation, including preparation of reports, reviewing feedback forms and tracking project outputs
- Any other tasks as required
Qualifications
- University degree, preferably in international relations, political science, law or related subject
- At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in project coordination in either international organisations or non-governmental organisations
- Demonstrated project management, organisational, and planning skills
- Pro-active and problem-solving attitude
- Attention to detail and ability to deliver high quality products under stress
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team, including the flexibility to respond to unexpected challenges by putting the teams interest ahead of personal views
- Experience in monitoring and evaluation tools will be considered an asset
- Basic understanding of Myanmar’s electoral, constitutional, and legal framework
- Basic knowledge of international human rights system
- Experience in capacity building is desirable
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office suite and cloud-based file sharing
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Myanmar is required
