All countries in Europe have committed themselves to establish democracy and the rule of law and to protect human rights, for example in the framework of the Council of Europe or the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe. DRI currently supports the realisation of these values in Kosovo or Ukraine. In Ukraine, DRI monitors and reports on the political reforms together with the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In Kosovo, DRI supports election watchdogs that promote the integrity of elections.

DRI is also concerned that EU member states respect these values as they are legally bound to do by Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union. We advocate for an effective use of the Treaty by the EU institutions and member states to protect these values.
