On 9-10 and 15-16 of December DRI organised a training school in Kharkiv called Democracy in Practice. The school, unlike previous editions, was open to civil activists and municipal government representatives from all over Ukraine, as well as activists from different regions of Ukraine.
The first part of the two-phased programme focused on communication and creating communication strategies. As a result of the training more than two thirds of participants created their very first drafts of communication strategies for their NGOs or municipal governments. DRI also received a proposal from the participants to provide targeted communication trainings for amalgamated communities. The second part of the school tackled the problem of qualitative project writing by the NGOs and representatives of local authorities. Alumni were encouraged to submit small project proposals and DRI received 20 applications. Some of them will be further developed with support from mentors.
DRI received more than 150 applications to attend the school, showing the need and interest in such training, and therefore will consider continuing this approach.
