DRI Communications Coordinator (m/f/d)

Background

As the Communications Coordinator, based in Berlin and under the supervision of the Director of Programmes, you coordinate DRI’s global communications efforts and those of headquarters-based projects, and support the communications efforts of the country offices.

Specific tasks for this position include: 

  • Design and oversee the strategic direction for DRI’s communications across the organisation;
  • Coordinate communications processes in country offices, advising and supporting the development of local communications strategies and recruitment of local staff with communications responsibilities;
  • Lead press relations for the organisation, maintaining a network of journalists, identifying and following-up on new opportunities;
  • Coordinate DRI’s global digital presence through the DRI website, social media channels and newsletter;
  • In addition to the above, you will directly support projects led by headquarters, notably in Europe. This includes:
    1. Adapting and implementing project communications strategies based on project goals and plans, including digital strategies;
    2. Leading press outreach efforts for these projects and pitching opinion pieces in close cooperation with the authors;
    3. Work in close collaboration with project teams to develop accessible and attractive content for these projects, advising and shaping content for their intended audiences;
  • Create or coordinate the production of communications products for DRI projects, including stories that highlight the impact of DRI’s work, website content, audio-visual materials, infographics and other visuals.
  • Provide communications training as needed for staff across DRI headquarters and the country offices
  • Advise on programme and project development as they relate to the organisation’s communications efforts;
  • Supervise the work of the Communications Associate and any other member of the communications team at DRI headquarters;
  • Coordinate the work of external providers (e.g. editors, designers, website maintenance).
  • Any other related tasks as assigned.

 

Your skills and experience 
  • A minimum four years of progressively responsible professional experience in communications (including media relations, social media, public relations and advocacy), preferably in an international organization, non-governmental organization (NGO) or as a journalist, combined with several years of experience with writing, editing and production of communications material;
  • University degree in communications, media studies, journalism, political or social science, international affairs, or other related fields;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, including proven editing and writing skills;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of political and legal developments in the EU;
  • Experience in development and implementation of communications strategies and policies for non-profit organisations is an asset;
  • Previous work experience with print and online media in the EU and very good contacts in the EU media landscape, in particular to the leading media (TV, radio, print), is an asset;
  • Proficient IT skills, experience working with a website Content Management System and understanding of online publishing;
  • Experience preparing audio-visual materials and infographics for dissemination on the web is an asset;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multi-national and multicultural environment;
  • Professional fluency in the English language, knowledge of other European languages is an asset.

Outreach Officer (m/f/d)

DRI is implementing a multi-year re:constitution programme aimed at facilitating a fact-based debate on the rule of law in Europe. To help drive and scale the external impact of this and other Europe-focused work, DRI is now recruiting a full-time Outreach Officer for its headquarters in Berlin.

Under the supervision of the Europe Manager, and in close collaboration with the relevant team/s and the Director of Programmes, the officer will contribute to tracking institutional developments, designing effective influencing strategies and building and servicing stakeholder partnerships and networks.

Your Tasks

  • Monitor  developments among relevant international institutions and actors, and within EU member states, identifying opportunities to advance DRI’s strategic goals
  • Design and implement effective outreach and influencing strategies and campaigns to advocate for strengthening of democracy and rule of law
  • Co-develop and service relationships with various external stakeholders, including NGOs, regional networks, media associations and policy makers
  • Represent DRI at meetings and conferences on relevant policy topics as required
  • Conceptualise and prepare catered advocacy materials for a range of audiences
  • Ensure ongoing updates and close coordination with the rest of the Europe team; Contribute to developing strategies and programmes, and participate in the relevant internal DRI-wide processes
  • Contribute to internal monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), and effective internal knowledge management for the programme
  • Any other duties as required.

Your Skills and Experience

  Required:

  • University degree in journalism, communications, law, international relations, political science, other social sciences, or a related field
  • At least 3 years’ work experience in strategic communications, advocacy, campaigning or journalism
  • Detailed knowledge of key European bodies and institutions
  • Strong organisational abilities and attention to detail
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team in a multi-cultural context
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Preferred:

  • Previous media work and/or detailed knowledge of the European media scene
  • Existing networks among European institutions and policymakers
  • Prior resource mobilisation/ fundraising experience
  • Good knowledge of rule of law issues in the EU, and current efforts to prevent rule of law erosion.
  • Some knowledge of digital democracy issues (online election manipulation, spread of mis/disinformation, media literacy, digital policy)
  • Knowledge of other EU languages.

Working Student- Finance Assistant (m/f/d)

Background

DRI is currently recruiting a part-time Finance Assistant for its Headquarters in Berlin. In collaboration with, and under the supervision of the Finance & Controlling Manager, you will support the Finance Unit in project financial management, bookkeeping and financial controlling.
Your Tasks
  • Monitor internal financial reports;
  • Assist in reconciliation of bookkeeping records;
  • Update project budgets with expenditure;
  • Participate in the preparation of donor financial reports;
  • Support with processing invoices and running payments;
  • Assist with the monthly review of open accounts payables;
  • Maintain financial files and other resources;
  • Support with the provision of documents and information for project audits;
  • Provide financial management advice to our country offices;
  • Support with the implementation of the ERP system Microsoft Business Central;
  • Other relevant duties, as required.

 

Your Skills and Experience

Required:

  • Academic background in finances, accounting, business administration or other finance related fields;
  • Excellent IT skills and proficiency in main computer applications, especially Microsoft Excel;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Business Central is a plus;
  • Work experience in an office setting;
  • Initial experience of working on grant management is an asset;
  • Good knowledge of German legal accounting standards;
  • Strong attention to detail, diligence and reliability;
  • Good communication and negotiation skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and German, knowledge of French and/or Arabic is an asset.

DRI is recruiting a Communications & Outreach Intern for its Berlin headquarters to support our communications and outreach efforts, with a focus on the organisation’s messaging and  digital presence.

You Tasks

  • Working under the supervision of DRI’s Communications Coordinator and in close collaboration with DRI’s Fundraising Focal Point, you will assist the communications section with communication and public outreach efforts across the organisation;
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing programmatic factsheets and capacity statements based on information provided by colleagues, support the effective usage of communication products to inform donors about DRI’s strategies and work;
  • Assist in developing design, multimedia products, change stories and content for digital platforms including the DRI website, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn;
  • Support donor cultivation and retention, including the development and implementation of strategies for engaging donors;
  • Assist with monitoring media to determine trends and to inform communications and outreach efforts;
  • Proactively contribute ideas for projects and stories that will help to promote communications and build narrative on DRI’s work;
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

Your skills and experience

Required:

  • Ongoing studies in political science, international affairs, social sciences, design, journalism, communications or related fields;
  • Demonstrated relevant work experience;
  • Proficiency in key computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel;
  • Diligence, eye for detail, pro-active attitude and strong willingness to learn and engage with different stakeholders in an international environment;
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills;
  • Student status; you must be enrolled in university throughout the duration of the internship;
  • Working permit for Germany (if you are a foreign student).

Preferred:

  • Experience
  • Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or with infographic-making tools. Experience working with website Content Management Systems such as WordPress or Drupal;
  • Experience writing content that was subsequently published;
  • Previous experience working with an NGO or non-profit organisation.

  • DRI offers you a full-time internship, starting as soon as possible for a duration of three months.
  • A monthly internship allowance of 400 € will be provided, unless you already receive funding from another source, such as from Erasmus.
