Background:
Democracy Reporting International gGmbH (DRI) is a nonpartisan, independent, not-for-profit international organisation registered in Berlin, Germany and operating in different parts of the world. It is implanted in Lebanon since October 2016.
In the framework of its Lebanon projects “Setting an Agenda for Decentralisation in Lebanon – Phase II” and “Resilience in Local Governance” (RESLOG), DRI is working with Lebanese civil society organisations and public officials to promote local governance in line with good governance principles. More specifically, our project “Setting an Agenda for Decentralisation in Lebanon” aims to reinforce effective cooperation between national and local governments and create platforms for coordination and exchange between citizens and local and national authorities.
DRI works closely with a consortium of Lebanese civil society organisations – Al-Idara bi-Mahalla – and cooperates with academics, think tanks and decentralisation practitioners. In 2019, DRI will use the findings of their comprehensive assessment of governance effectiveness to engage national and local government representatives and work with civil society partners to advocate for reform.
In this context, DRI seeks to make its knowledge products (policy papers and briefs), communications and advocacy materials (infographics, press statements, awareness documents) in Arabic accessible to an international audience.

Your duties and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of DRI’s Country Representative in Lebanon, the translator shall provide a high-quality translation of:
- A study on municipal mergers and the financial sustainability of municipalities in Lebanon (6,500 words);
- An introductory paper on decentralisation, its administrative and political premises (6,500 words);
- DRI’s knowledge materials and communication outputs, as required.
Qualifications we require:
- A university degree in Translation, Arabic and English literature or equivalent;
- Minimum 5 years of translation experience;
- Proven record of translation of governance and/or public policy documents is essential
- Excellent writing and communication skills;
- Excellent command of English and Arabic is a requirement.
